G-Mart Lok Kawi

G-Mart opened its 9th store in Sabah at Lok Kawi on 19th March 2010. I was part of the team that was involved in setting up this store, and it is very satisfying to see a store well received by our customers. G-Mart Lok Kawi, situated 20km outside of Kota Kinabalu city, serves the community of Lok Kawi and Kinarut area.

In terms of size, this is the smallest store of the group. G-Mart has organized 3 days of activities to celebrate the opening of this store from 19th to 21st March. From DJ, singing performances, dance performances, eating competitions, cooking demonstrations, free sampling to karaoke competition. Judging by the enthusiasm of the contestants and spectators, maybe we should have eating competitions throughout the month.

The highlight of the celebrations for me is when Wawa of Tenom took to the stage to showcase her talent. She is billed as the Ratu Dangdut Tenom, which I take it to mean Princess of Dangdut music. Dangdut is a genre of music, very popular in Indonesia and Malaysia. I would describe Dangdut as part pop, part rock, and the songs are sexy without being over the top. She performs in the afternoon, and in the evening. Her last performance is on the 21st evening. This girl can sing!

Watch out for my feature post on Wawa, our very own Dangdut Princess from Tenom.
