This is an amazing story about a girl from our neighboring state in Sarawak, Malaysia. She grew up in a small oil producing town, writing her own songs and posting them on YouTube.com. I was reading YouTube’s blog a few days ago and saw her story there. Ever since I’ve heard her songs, I couldn’t get them out of my mind. The story goes something like this, she posted her song No Christmas For Me on Youtube, and it was to be her last song. Something like that.
Then a couple of weeks later, she was signed up and is currently in Los Angeles, doing gigs in the US. This is a video of 4 songs, Honey Bee, Bitter Heart, Kantoi and Monte, all original songs by Zee Avi. Take a listen, she has an amazing voice! One of my favorites is Bitter Heart, a sweet and strangely happy song. Kantoi is a mix of English and Malay, and if you understand Malay, you will definitely identify if the song. Funny too.
