Weather In Sabah
The good news is that we have a dry month in May, hardly rained at all and that was only a light drizzle in the middle of the night. The bad news is the temperature in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah feels like it is 40 degrees Celsius. That’s not what it says on the thermometer but it sure is a hot month. Most weather forecasts are 32 to 36 degrees Celsius, dry and perhaps the occasional showers in the afternoon. Well, it is hot and humid all right, haven’t experienced any showers yet, and probably will be glad if it did happen.
The dry season is great for climbing Mount Kinabalu, or visiting the islands around Sabah, even better if you are a scuba diver. Best months to visit Sabah is from April to October. But that’s only my opinion. December to February gets a little wet sometimes.
You can download the Calender Of Events 2009 in Sabah. All the ongoing attractions and festivals are listed there and most are free to attend. In May, the main festival is the Kaamatan or Harvest Festival of the natives. In Tuaran, the Untuk Ngadau Kaamatan (Ethnic Beauty Contest) finale is on the 16th of May. The winners will go on to compete in the finals at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) in Penampang on the 30th and 31st of May.
Being in Tuaran, my company sponsored the banner and some prizes for the contestants. Hey, it’s a community event and we are a part of it.
Sabah World Museum Day is from the 18th to 23rd of May. In addition to the displays of our heritage, there will also be traditional arts and cultural demonstrations. Entrance is free and I enjoy going to museums.
With the dry weather this month, it ought to be good. Except for the heat. Just drink plenty of fluids, use a sunblock, shorts and t-shirts and you will be fine. And you will really appreciate air-conditioning when you get back to your hotel.
