The world’s first on-line travel status checking service was introduced by the Malaysian Immigration Department in March 2009. Malaysia is the first country in the world to introduce such a system.
The Director General said that at present, there are some 300,000 Malaysians who are blacklisted from leaving or entering the country, by various government agencies. For reasons from defaulting on loans (including study loans), security risks, identity, insolvency and income tax issues. A additional 200,000 are foreigners who were illegal immigrants and were deport from the country and others who are considered security risks.
Malaysians are advised to check their travel status on-line to prevent the embarrassment of facing any problems at the airport. The travel status check can be done at the Immigrations Department website at www.imi.gov.my. If there is a prohibition on your leaving the country, you can refer to the Security Division of the Immigration Department. The travel status check will not show the reason for the ban, and you will be required to inquire at the Immigration Department office. So just to be on the safe side, do a travel status check at www.imi.gov.my.
