Water World Kota Kinabalu

Bring Your Kids To Water World For A Day Of Fun

We went to Water World in Tun Fuad Stephens Park, Bukit Padang, this morning. Water World is the only water theme park in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Nothing compared to Sunway Lagoon Theme Park in Kuala Lumpur, but still a great deal of fun for kids.

We make it a point to go during school holidays to spend some quality time with our kids. The best thing about it is they always offer promotion prices during school holidays. Right now, it is buy 2 tickets and get 1 free. Also any children below 3 feet tall gets to go in free. So we only spent RM30.00 for the four of us.

What is in Water World Theme Park?

Water World is one big swimming pool area with lots of water slides for children and adults. Kids absolutely love it here, and you can hear their happy screams all over the park. There are 2 water slides for small children, one that twists and turns, and the other just goes straight down. You should have seen the face on my Princess when she went on the straight slide. It was hilarious, and she gave us an earful because it was quite a steep slide.

There are also 4 other slides for older children and adults. These are seldom used because most parents spend most of their time watching their kids. Most of the time, 2 of those slides are out of commission anyway. I don’t know if this is because hardly anybody uses it, or because it really is broken down. They also have a rope when you can slide across on a pulley, kind of like a flying fox, but that was not in operation today. When it is, it is very popular.

The water in the main pool is less than 4 feet deep, which is the norm for children pool. You will find that the water world is targeted towards children, and it is fun for children. You have to bring your own swimming ring (or is it called a floating ring?) and it just adds to the fun for the little ones.

Today though, the water felt really cold. It has been raining for the last 2 nights in Kota Kinabalu, so it wasn’t as nice as it could have been. But after the initial shock, my princess and all the kids there didn’t seem to mind. But then, they were the ones running up and down the slides, and diving into the pools.

There are plenty of changing rooms and showers stalls here, clean too I might add. There are also some food stalls but I suggest you skip this and go to the main food court. It is a good idea to bring some food for the kids, they will definitely be hungry after all that exertion.

Do take a little care when you visit. Maintenance is not up to standard, and while I consider it safe (kind of), the entire park is not exactly up to safety standards. There are some corners of the park you need to be careful.

Getting There
The Water World theme park is located in Tun Fuad Stephens Park, Bukit Pandang, Luyang. This is a popular jogging track, and there is a hiking trail on the hill. If you have not been up to Mount Kinabalu, I suggest you try the trail in Bukit Pandand. It is a lot like the route up Mount Kinabalu. This is also where Kampung Nelayan restaurant is located, just a couple of minutes out of Kota Kinabalu city.

This park is nothing compared to Sunway Lagoon in Kuala Lumpur, but it is still good fun. Less of a crowd, smaller space and less than a quarter of the price. We take what we can get in Kota Kinabalu and as long as the kids enjoy it, it is a good day.
