Tip Of Borneo

The Tip Of Borneo is located in a small town of Sabah called Kudat. As it’s name implies, it is right at the end of where you can travel in Kudat. Here are some photos taken by a friend of mine, Peter Liew, an photography enthusiast.

Kudat is about a 3 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. The road is fairly decent, and you will go through quite a number of interesting towns in rural Sabah. Kudat is the end of the line, and it is an old town. You can find great seafood there, fish, shells, and prawns. There is a place by the sea, right in town that serves delicious and low-priced cooking, using traditional local recipes. Nothing fancy, just good, fresh seafood. This is home cooking at its best.

The Tip Of Borneo, is located in Tanjung Simpang Mengayau. About 45 minutes from the main road. You will get to see the kampung life in Sabah. Kampung means village in Malay, also used to describe your hometown. When you arrive, you are looking at the South China Sea, with absolutely beautiful, pristine water. You can have a quiet  picnic or BBQ on a clean and beautiful sandy beach.

The best way to get there is with a tour guide, otherwise you’ll probably end up in the interior of Sabah. You can also take the outbound coach from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat, travel in relative comfort for a low price ticket. Or take the local bus service, an even cheaper service. A non air-conditioned bus service, which is how most rural folks travel. Taking the bus is a bit of adventure in itself, and you get to see and experience more.

Here is prove that you have stood at the Tip Of Borneo.

On another day, it looks like this. The following photos taken by Beatrice, a soon to be contributor to this blog.

Definitely a place worth going just to say you have been to the tip of Borneo! It was very hot when we went but well worth it! The view was brilliant! Consider having a picnic on the beach near the Tip. We had a BBQ and had the beach all to ourselves!

hi, can anyone tell me where to get a taxi to kudat for one person from kk itself and the cost. thank u.

  • adrian says:

Go to Merdeka Padang in KK city, that’s where all the out-going taxis are located. You can hire the whole taxi, or share with 3 other travelers. Not sure if they go to the Tip of Borneo though. As a rule, it costs RM20 to RM30 per person, one way. I’ve hired the entire cab for RM50 one way before, although that was years ago.

You could always ask if you could rent the cab for the whole day. It takes almost 3 hours to get there, another 3 hours back.
