The Green Connection Aquarium

About 4 weeks ago, Professor Steve Oakley extended an invitation to me to visit The Green Connection Aquarium. I have to confess, it was only when he mentioned that “unless we say Aquarium we get asked if we are a garden centre” that I realized where The Green Connection was. This is a good time to extend my appreciation to him and his team for their work in Sabah.

Judging from the response on their Facebook page, it has been very well received by the public. I am told that most visitors spend about 2 hours per visit and most tours are between 1 to 1 1/2 hours long. This would suggest that there are plenty to see at the Green Connection Aquarium.

What is The Green Connection Aquarium?
The Green Connection Aquarium is designed as an eco-theme park to display the biodiversity and natural wonders of Sabah. It features a display of over 500 species of of marine life, including sharks and snakes found in Sabah. These animals are displayed in tanks and other exhibits. The Discovery centre aspires “to unlock the door of knowledge and let all people experience the awe and wonder of the aquatic world”.

Opening Hours and Admission
The Green Connection is open for visitors from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. Tickets are sold at their ticket counter in front of the Green Connection Aquarium.

The price of admission are: RM 25.00 for adults, and RM 15.00 for children in the ages of 2 to 16 years old.

Family ticket rates are also available, as well as schools and group prices. This makes for a great educational field trip for schools and kindergartens. The students will have a grand time of it, as the presentations are interactive. All the school has to do is to book one week in advance.

If you are taking a taxi-cab, it should cost no more that RM 10 to RM 15 per cab.
If you want to take the bus, make sure the route is Jalan Tuaran (Tuaran Road). It should cost only RM 1.00 per person.

I would love to go and see the aquarium, but since I am based in London it will probably be some time before I get to go there. None the less, I loved the photos and if nothing else, I like the idea of it being the GREEN aquarium. (We all need to to raise awareness when it comes to our ecology.)
