Off The Beaten Track: Diving In Mantanani
The island of Mantanani lies off the beaten track of other mainstream tourism destinations. The journey to the island begins with a two-hour drive from Kota Kinabalu city to Kampung Kuala Abai jetty in Kota Belud.
Followed by another hour of riding on a speedboat. The boat ride can be a bit of an adventure.Depending on the sea condition, the experience may more closely resemble that of white water rafting in Padas River. Ask your tour guide for seasick pills if you cannot handle the rough ride.
Few locals have visited these three isolated islands located northwest of Kota Belud town in Sabah. Most who have come here are scuba divers, tour guides and anglers.

There are underwater wrecks for diver divers to explore, coral reef and marine life, and the water around Mantanani gives good visibility. Another well known activity at Mantanani is swimming with the Dugongs, which thrives on the sea-grass that grows in the bay.
