1 Borneo Lifestyle Mall

1 Borneo is Sabah’s Largest Shopping Mall, and Kota Kinabalu’s biggest attraction for shoppers. It has shopping outlets, leisure, dining outlets, includes a bank, and a number of hotels. It has become a favorite for locals and tourists to visit because of the variety of shops and ample parking.

To get there, just travel from Kota Kinabalu City via Likas Bay on Sulaman Road. I think it is impossible to find a taxi or limo driver in K.K. who does not know where 1 Borneo is. If you are staying in a hotel somewhere in the city, 1 Borneo runs scheduled shuttles from the city to the hypermall. If you need to take the public bus service, just ask and they will direct you to the correct bus. You cannot miss the drop-off point at 1 Borneo, as you will see the mall long before you arrive. Just ask your hotel staff, they love taking care of tourists and guests.

1 Borneo differentiates by positioning itself as a lifestyle destination. This works as more and more Sabahans are hanging out in 1 Borneo. 1 Borneo has branded stores selling Nike, Addidas, Reebok, Espirit, specialty stores like Toys R Us, movie and music stores. Daiso, the Japanese concept 5 dollar store is here, with interesting merchandise.

Giant hypermarket, the giant electronics store Sen Heng, jewellery stores and some really expensive brand of watches store. Apple authorised dealer, HP and Sony retailers, and the ever-present handphone outlets. Surprisingly, only one soon to be opened bookstore.

1 Borneo has a Golden Screen Cinema, a bowling alley, am amusement ride and arcade centre, and the soon to be opened 1 Borneo SeaWorld. There is also a Chinatown and local Handicraft Bazaar. You will also find RHB Bank on the gorund floor. That is what 1 Borneo is about, bring different retail concepts and formats to Sabah, making shopping more interesting.

There is always a display or convention or fashion show going on from time to time. This month features a photographic display. Speaking of photography, digital photography is very popular and you can see some amazing shots of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu and it’s people. Media artists like popular recording artists, actors and DJs turn up from time to time, including Sabah’s supermodel.

It has 4 hotels – Tune Hotel, Novotel, Mercure and Courtyard. Ranging for budget 1 star but looks great Tune Hotel, to the 3 star, full dining facilities Mercure. You could start your holiday here in 1 Borneo, have the hotel arrange tours for you to the Tip Of Borneo, or take a look at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, go see the Crocodile Farm in Tuaran, or climb Mount Kinabalu.

1 Borneo is still a work in progress. The condominums of 1 Borneo are still under construction, and the much talked about Hovercraft service has yet to materialize.

If you are a visitor from Kuala Lumpur, or West Malaysia, 1 Borneo has some ways to go before it can compare to Mid-Valley Megamall or 1 Utama. In fact, the interior and layout of 1 Borneo reminds me of Mid-Valley Megamall, just on a smaller scale.
