I had the opportunity to watch Wawa, our Ratu Dangdut (Dangdut Princess) from Tenom, Sabah. Some of my friends and colleagues know her from the opening of G-Mart Tenom. As it were, I saw her featured on the G-Mart Lok Kawi store opening poster.
After I have seen her performance, it is my privilege to feature her on www.aboutsabah.com. For starters, she can really sing. So maybe I am a little biased, but she sang a lot better than many performers I have seen. She turned in a credible performance despite the limited sound system that was available. At one stage, she brought a 10yr old girl from the audience to dance with her on stage. The crowd appreciated that.
Dangdut is sexy. If you have ever heard it or seen a music video of dangdut music, you would know what I am talking about. It is sexy without being over the top. Dangdut sounds like a mix of pop tune with rock elements in the music. Whatever it is, it is entertaining. Having seen her dance, if this was a private performance, she would have really rocked the house.

Some Facts about Wawa
I managed talk to her after her performance, and discovered that she is friendly and easy to talk to. She graciously posed for some photographs and chatted with everyone there. Her friends call her Wawa. She is 20 years old, and performs with a band, while working at Sime Darby in Tenom. She plays a little guitar, although she concentrates on singing mostly. She connects with her audience very well, and express herself well on the stage.
