Sunset is my favorite time of the Day. As the sun slowly sets over Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, it seems that everything just slows down. Maybe it’s the end of the working day, or maybe it’s because you’re heading home to see your loved ones. But it seems that the world around you just takes a breather as the sun is setting.
I have seen sunsets in many parts of the world, in a number of cities but I do not recall actually having the time to just chill and enjoy the sight. Life in Sabah is different, somehow I feel more in tune with nature. I always feel recharged after a such a beautiful sight in the sky. Especially after the rain, when everything seems more vivid, and the sky is painted in such incredible colors.
Some people think I’m nuts, getting all excited over a sunset. They think it isn’t something you need to photograph. I mean, you’ll see it again tomorrow right? Take a look and let me know what you think.

- Sunset Over Sabah

- This is worth seeing
I took most of these pictures from where I live. There are many times I wished I had a camera with me while I am driving. The route from Tuaran to my place offers many wonderful views of the setting sun. Sometimes, it looks like an orange ball in the sky. Other times, everything is just bathed in a golden light and you feel that all is well in the world.

- Golden sunset
While seeing the sunset at a seaside resort is romantic, I have always felt that it is more beautiful inland. The next time you are in Sabah, try seeing the sunset on top of Mt Kinabalu.

- Sunset at a beach resort

Hi,
Where is a good place to watch the sunset for a tourist and approx what time? my group of friends are heading down to KK during New year.
DO u have any recommendation where we can do a countdown?
Thanks
Hi Germaine,
I guess it depends on where you are staying. On New Year’s Eve, most resorts such as Shangri-La Beach Resort in Tanjung Aru, or Sutera Harbour in Kota Kinabalu city, have a beach party or something grand to usher in the new year.
Otherwise, head on to Waterfront, near Le Meridien Hotel, or Hyatt Hotel in the city. There’s a cool place next to Hyatt Hotel called Upperstar, which is really nice. Or you could try Hyatt’s Pub, Shenanigan. The name kind of says it all.
Beaches are very crowded, seems like everybody’s favorite hangout. But if you are in the city, just head to the harbor and follow the crowd.
thanks for the tip. We will be staying in western kinabalu daya hotel. where do you think has a good view of the sunset. we don’t might traveling a little further for a good view.
