The Royal Wedding Of William And Kate
Since 3.00pm this afternoon, I have been watching the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. I think they are going to revitalize the royal family and make the monarchy relevant to England. When all is said and done, nobody does it better than the Brits when it comes to pomp and ceremony.
Regardless of your views or where you are in the world, it is a great day to see two young couples in love and starting their journey through life together. Although we do not know them, I am sure Prince William has touched the hearts of many. The Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Catherine looks absolutely radiant.
The British Monarchy Is Back
The Duchess of Cambridge will be known as Princess Catherine, but I think she will forever be Kate to her legions of fans. Just as Princess Diana was known as Princess Di.
The Previous Royal Weddings
I still remember watching Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding while I was staying in Singapore. And I was in central London the day Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson. The atmosphere in central London was just amazing. Seeing it on television, this wedding is the biggest one of them all.
North Borneo Was A British Colony
Nowadays, it means little except as a footnote in history. But for the older generation, it is living history. My maternal grandfather was conferred the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to North Borneo.
Many of us in Sabah were in England and continue to keep in touch with friends over there. Besides, with air travel, satellite television and internet, it is easy to remain connected. So let’s just wish the young couple all the best.
Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!
