Chinese New Year 2013: Year Of The Snake
Chinese New Year in Malaysia was celebrated on the 10th and 11th of February 2013. 2013 is the year of the snake and just about everyone I know would have read what the year of the snake has in store for them. As usual we were visited by a troupe of 18 Lions, a Dragon and Unicorns on the first day of the new year.
Chinese New Year is an annual celebration marking the start of the new year according to the Chinese lunar calendar. This is the biggest festival celebrated by the Chinese in Asia and in Chinatowns throughout the world.
Chinese New Year 2013: Astro’s Mascot Ulala
Astro came up with a cute little mascot for the year of the snake called Ulala. Ulala is a play on the Malay word for snake, which is “Ula”. This cute little guy was featured on the Chinese channels on our satellite television. It was also available on sale at selected outlets at 1 Borneo hypermall.
Last year it was a cute little dragon called the Happy Dragon in Chinese. But the name was somewhat lacking after translation.
Chinese New Year 2013: The Days Before
In the run-up to Chinese New Year is always a busy time for adults, and it was an very busy time for us. Especially for those of us who have to help out in other projects and activities. To make matters more challenging, my little 3 year old Angel busted my digital camera. Oh well, it was time for a replacement anyway and then we will be flying off to Tawau.
