It isn’t often I come across a holiday destination for the first time, most of the popular travel destinations are well-known. So when I first heard of Lanzarote, I had to look it up.
Lanzorate is situated in the Canary Islands, which is a Spanish island off the coast of Africa. I bet most of us have heard of the Canary islands, but many will not have had the opportunity to go on vacation there. Thanks to an acquaintance who told me about Lanzarote, it turns out that it is a fascinating place to visit.
Lanzorate, Canary Islands
Lanzarote receives about 2 million visitors a year, mainly from the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany. It is an ideal holiday destination for tourists looking for something out of the ordinary. The island is of volcanic origins, extensive stretches of beaches of golden sand, attractive scuba diving sites, well established resorts and nightlife.
Interesting Fact: The Gran Hotel in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzorate, is the only high-rise building on the island.
Lanzarote has many natural attractions, on the land and in the sea, as well as vineyards on the island. It also has many tours available that will take you to the best places on the island for that truly memorable holiday. From nature tours, to water sports, hanging out by the beach, to shopping and partying.
Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is the longest established resort in lanzarote, and is probably the most well-known resort on the island. Nestled on the coast, it is about a 10 minute drive from Arrecife Airport and is a convenient place from which to explore Lanzarote. From beaches, to holiday villas, to casinos, Puerto del Carmen has the highest concentration of bars, pubs and discos.
Playa Blanca the perfect place for a quieter, more sophisticated holiday in Lanzarote. With a marina, plenty of cafes and a relaxed atmosphere, Playa Blanca it is about 37km from the island’s capital of Arrecife and 33km from the airport. There are no shortage of places to eat in Playa Blanca, with some seafood restaurants on the beach promenade overlooking Playa Blanca beach and out over the Atlantic.
Costa Teguise has sandy beaches, lively nightlife and easy access to many of the islands major tourist attractions in Lanzarote. It is one of Lanzarote’s main tourist resorts and a 20 min drive from Arrecife airport. Costa Teguise is well known for beaches with fine golden sand, and many of the activities revolve around the beach, especially wind-surfing.
The Climate In Lanzarote
Lanzarote enjoys a subtropical climate that has plenty of sunshine all year round, its climate is excellent for out of season breaks and winter holidays. The average temperature in Lanzarote is 21 degrees Celsius, and the average rainfall is 110mm per year.The wind in Lanzarote is constant and moderate almost all year, making the island the perfect place to enjoy water sports from windsurfing to kitesurfing and yachting.
