Seafest Hotel Semporna

Seafest Hotel is the largest and most modern hotel in Semporna, Sabah. It bills itself as the first business class hotel in Semporna.

There are two Seafest Hotel, the first was established many years ago and is like many of the motels you find in rural Sabah. The second is a modern, 3 star hotel with a beautiful sea view.

To get there, all you have to do is to mention their name to your driver. It is well-known hotel and something of a landmark in Semporna.

The Hotel
Seafest hotel has 140 rooms, suites and one Executive floor. It has all the amenities you expect to find in a modern 3 star hotel. The front desk is friendly and checking in is handle efficiently. Payment is made upon check-in. This hotel uses key cards, so you don’t have to deposit your room key whenever you go leave the hotel. Once check-in is done, make your way to one of the four elevators that will take you to your floor.

The Hotel Rooms
Our room was 320, located at the behind the first block of the hotel. Opening the window gave us a view of the back end of the first wing. It makes no difference to me, but it would have been nice if we could get a view of the sea.

The hotel room is simply furnished, has a television and tea/coffee making corner, a writing desk and a coffee table with two chairs. The rooms are quite spacious and are carpeted. The only thing is I always have the impression that the rooms feel somewhat incomplete. Perhaps it is a little too spacious, and I really cannot tell you what it is about the room design. But something feels lacking.

There is a little toiletry set in the bathroom, with bars of soap and a small bottle of shampoo. There isn’t any bathtub, just a shower head. The shower area is a not adequately lit but the water pressure is strong. While none really wants to use bar soap, the shampoo was surprising good. Many shampoos found in hotels and even resorts tend to dry out the hair. This one suits me fine. Two bath towels are also supplied, and these were clean and in good condition.

Later that night, I switched on my laptop and managed to get access to their wifi. They do not provide wifi service, but they do have a business center so I am guessing that the wifi access was from the business center. The signal was strong enough for me to update one of my client’s website, so that was helpful.

The Lepa Cafe
We had our dinner outside the hotel at Mabul Cafe, so we gave the Lepa Cafe a skip. Normal room rates include breakfast, but they do allow you to take deduct the breakfast for a lower room rate. On my previous visit, we did have breakfast there. Breakfast is buffet style with Western and local selections, and the food was fine. The Lepa Cafe opens from 7.00am to 11.00pm.

The Igal lounge
The Igal lounge is just in front of the reception, but I have never seen any one having a drink here. They open from 4.00pm to 12.00 midnight. Still, I have tried it on one of my previous visits. The last time they served Tiger beer, and the price is what you would expect from a hotel. No cheap beer here. There wasn’t any live music, so after a quiet drink we headed back to our rooms.

The Anjung Lepa
This is an open air area that serves traditional Malay food and charcoal grilled seafood. It opens daily from 4.00pm to 12.00 midnight. On most days it is quiet out here, most guests would be out in town and have their dinner in the Lepa Cafe.
