Imperial International Kota Kinabalu

This is the Imperial International hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Located in the one of the hottest place in Kota Kinabalu city. It is connected to Warisan Square, a shopping complex that focuses on branded wear, and international restaurant franchises, everything from drinks to food. In front of the hotel is Centrepoint Shopping Complex, the second largest shipping complex in Kota Kinabalu after 1 Borneo. Behind Imperial International Hotel is the hottest night entertainment area in the city, the Waterfront.

The imperial International Hotel
The hotel has 208 modern and chic rooms. It also features a restaurant on the roof-top, which offers a Sunday Buffet at RM18 per person. On my last visit, I brought everybody up to the roof-top only to discover it was a Saturday after all.

The rooms starts from the Court Room, all the way to Suites. The standard rooms are 30+ square meter, which is about the standard size for Sabah. It comes with all the modern amenities like flat-screen television, cable, internet access, coffee making facilities, refrigerator and a small wardrobe.

The rooms feel quite spacious, with the use of white color and mirrors at the doorway. The large windows gives you a view of the South China Sea. We found the room to be quite comfortable.

In addition to the roof-top restaurant, the hotel also has a bar up there. It’s a nice place to have a drink while watching the sunset in the South China Sea. Personally, I think Sabah has the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The only thing missing from this hotel is a swimming pool.

Getting Out and About
Step outside the hotel and you are in the shopping district of Kota Kinabalu city. Warisan Square offers branded merchandise, a book store and plenty of restaurants, from Japanese, Chinese, Italian, and Fish and Chips.

Across the street, Centrepoint has more variety of merchandise, it also includes a cinema and a bowling alley. There are also more fast food restaurants here, Burger King, Pizza Hut, McDonalds and KFC, as well as a local food court.

If you need to get out of the city, there are many taxi-cabs available, and the buses are a short walk away. The hotel is in an ideal spot, so you can explore Kota Kinabalu city by foot. It is next to impossible to get lost in Kota Kinabalu city, it’s not that big. If you want to go to the islands in Tunku Abdul Rahman park, it’s possible to walk to the jetty but it is quite a distance away. Bearing in mind the climate in Sabah is hot and sunny, it will seem a long, long way.

Kota Kinabalu International Airport is about 10 minutes away, and it is about the same for Terminal 2.
