Most Hotels in Tawau, Sabah are located in the center of town, well within walking distance of each other. Tawau town is not that big to start with, and as a tourist location, there is not a lot to see.
Although the town of Semporna, the gateway to Sipadan island is only an hours drive away, it is in the opposite direction. You get to Semporna from Tawau airport, without having to stop by Tawau town.
But for those of us with friends and family in Tawau, or those who are in Tawau on business trips, there are quite a number of hotels which are comfortable to stay in. These hotels have been in operation for many years, and this year has undergone refurbishing, so it should be a comfortable stay. All the hotels featured in this post are within one city block, and just across the road is a superstore which is very convenient.
Formerly known as First Hotel, it has changed its name to Prince Hotel. It has also undergone a massive facelift and the interior has been refurnished. Completed at the end of August 2010, the room rates are as follows:
Superior Family: RM108.00
Deluxe Suite: RM118.00
King Suite: RM138.00
The room rates are inclusive of taxes, and are the listed price for 2010. Do ask them for the best rate. Check-in time is 2.00pm, and Check-out is 12.00pm. Visa, Mastercard and American Express are accepted.
Istana Monaco Hotel
This is actually two hotels in one, the Istana and the Monaco. I am told they also refurnished their rooms but I did not have the chance to view their rooms. Hopefully, it is on par with the other hotels in Tawau. From previous visits, this was my last choice of hotels to stay in. But this may have changed.
Room rates for 2010:
- Standard: RM80.00
- Superior (King Bed): RM90.00
- Superior (Twin Bed): RM100.00
- Deluxe: RM120.00
- Suite (2 bedroom): RM150.00
Check-out time is 12.00pm. Do ask for promotional rates when you make your booking. You can save RM10 to RM25 depending on the room. I do know that their promotional rates are good for 2010.
The best choice is the Heritage hotel. Beautiful and comfortable, with good service. the rooms come with coffee/tea making facilities and satellite television channels.
The listed room rates:
- Standard Room: RM150.00
- Superior Room: RM180.00
- Deluxe Twin: RM210.00
- Deluxe King: RM230.00
- Suite Room:500.00
Always ask for promotional rates. Why? Because promotional rates starts from RM88.00 for Standard room and RM330.oo for their Suite. The room rates they gave me are good until 2010, but perhaps they will give you the same rates for 2011.
