Grand Borneo Hotel

The Grand Borneo Hotel made its debut in May 2009. This is a 325 rooms, 4 star hotel located in 1 Borneo hypermall, Sabah. Guests staying at the Grand Borneo Hotel has direct access to restaurants, entertainment and shopping in 1 Borneo hyeprmall. Chic and urban design, 4 star deluxe at the hottest location in Kota Kinabalu city, this is the place to stay on your vacation in Sabah.

City View Or Mountain View

The rooms are cosy, and urban chic. Listed prices start at RM190 for the standard room and up to RM680 for the grand suite. Do watch out for their promotions. The last time this reviewer stayed at Grand Borneo Hotel, it was RM98, valid until October 2009. The bad news is the promotion was for Malaysians only. As for the size of the room, it was the right size for this reviewer but might be small for everyone else.

The rooms come with complimentary broadband internet access, coffee and tea making facilities, in-room safe and a hair dryer in the bathroom. A flat-screen tv and cable or satellite programs are compulsory in hotels these days.

Hotel Facilities
One of the reasons for the recent stay at Grand Borneo Hotel is the swimming pool. Kids just love to playing in the pool, and every time they need a break, we take them swimming. For adults, there is a gym and I suppose you can hang out at the Bubble Bar.

If you are dining in, try the Soul Out Restaurant. Located at Level 2, it offers all day dining, serving international cuisine. To my way of thinking, everything can be termed international cuisine these days. One thing you don’t have to be concerned is looking for a place to eat. In 1 Borneo, everything from steakhouse, kebabs, Chinese, Japanese, Malay restaurants are available. As well as fast food joints like McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC).

What To Do In 1 Borneo
Just walk out of the hotel and you can catch a movie, take the kids to an amusement park, or visit live animals. From time to time, 1 Borneo organizes shows and concerts in the main atrium depending on the season.

If you are traveling with kids, you can buy infant formulas and diapers from a Giant supermarket on the lower ground floor, or toiletries from Guardian pharmacy. Guardian has outlets on the lower ground floor, as well as the ground floor. Basically, you can travel light and pick up what you need when you get to Sabah.

The Hotel Reviewer
By the way, this review was brought to you by my angelic daughter. She had a great time staying at this hotel, thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool. That’s her on the right.

Getting Out And About
Grand Borneo Hotel can arrange tours and transportation for you to see the exotic places in Kota Kinabalu. From history and culture tours, chilling out on tropical islands (there is a selection of islands for you to choose from), or wildlife and national parks, such as Mount Kinabalu.

One very interesting place you should try to visit is the Monsopiad Cultural village. This is the home of the most famous headhunter in Borneo. You can still see his war trophies (human skulls) hanging in his room. Monsopiad village is only about 30 mins away and it only costs a few dollars to get in.
