Looking for a place to have lunch while shopping in 1 Borneo, Kota Kinabalu? You might drop in to Home’s Cafe and Restaurant, located in 1 Borneo hypermall, at the lower ground floor. They serve local favorites like, fried noodles (in a variety of styles), rice with stir-fried vegetables, sweet and sour chicken, local Chinese style food we get anywhere. They also serve Western food, such as chicken chop, and fish and chips.
How Was The Food?
We tried the grilled chicken with rice, and the fish and chips. The Chinese style cooking was pretty normal fare. It wasn’t bad, and the taste just didn’t match the decor. As for the fish and chips, well, I’ve had worst. As usual, my angel ate most of my fries. While the food looked boring presentation-wise, the fish was fresh and wasn’t oily. I couldn’t help but look across to Manhattan Fish Market and remember my incident with the oily fish.
The food here seems to be what you would normally find in any open air coffee shop. Incidentally, I happen to think food taste better when you dine alfresco. Sure, the atmosphere in a restaurant might be nice, and air-con is always welcomed, but it just isn’t the same.
My Opinion Only
Strangely, I found this restaurant lacking in atmosphere and identity. From the outside, it looks nice, but once you enter, there is nothing that sets it apart. The food was average, the service was efficient, and the price was lower than many other restaurants in 1 Borneo. But there was nothing unique about it, and nothing that draws you back time and again. Still, drop by and try out their food. Maybe I missed something on my visit there.

Nice cafe design, makes visitor more comfortable.. and they will stay as long as it can.
